Make it at home

Iced Tea

Hibiscus-Mint Iced Tea

  • 2 tablespoons dried hibiscus petals
  • 4 cups hot water
  • A handful of fresh mint
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • Optional: a little honey or stevia
  1. Pour the hot water over the hibiscus and mint and steep 10 minutes.
  2. Strain, add the lemon, and sweeten lightly if you like.
  3. Chill and serve over ice. Keeps 3 days in the fridge.

A caffeine-free, tart iced tea. Hibiscus can interact with some medicines, including blood pressure medicine and diuretics, so check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any.

Salad

Beet, Orange & Arugula Salad

  • 2 cooked beets, sliced (or 1 packaged pouch)
  • 2 cups arugula
  • 1 orange, peeled and segmented
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • Pinch of black pepper
  1. Arrange the arugula on a plate and top with the beets and orange.
  2. Whisk the olive oil, lemon juice and pepper, then drizzle over the salad.
  3. Sprinkle the walnuts on top.

Beets and leafy greens are naturally rich in potassium. If you follow a potassium-restricted diet or take certain blood pressure medicines, ask your care team before eating them regularly.

In-depth guides

Talk with your doctor. Heart and blood pressure concerns need a healthcare professional. Never stop or change a prescribed medicine without talking to your doctor, and check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding any supplement, especially if you take blood thinners or blood pressure medicine.
