Natural remedies & lifestyle tips

Make it at home

Salad

Lemony Lentil & Spinach Salad

  • 1 cup cooked lentils (or 1 can, rinsed)
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  1. Toss the lentils, spinach and bell pepper in a bowl.
  2. Whisk the olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
  3. Pour over the salad, top with feta, and serve.

Lentils and spinach bring plant iron and folate, and the lemon and red pepper add vitamin C, which helps your body absorb that iron.

Smoothie

Bone-Builder Berry Smoothie

  • 1 cup milk or calcium-fortified soy milk
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 handful baby spinach
  • 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
  1. Add everything to a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth, adding a splash more milk if it's too thick.

Milk, yogurt and fortified soy milk are among the easiest ways to get calcium.

In-depth guides

Talk with your doctor. Talk with your doctor before starting any of these if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding, take prescription medicine, or have a medical condition. Black cohosh (in Women's Vitality Formula) may not be safe in pregnancy, and rare cases of liver damage have been reported; stop and call your doctor if you notice dark urine, yellowing skin or unusual tiredness. If you have a hormone-sensitive condition, ask your doctor before using herbal hormone-support blends. Ashwagandha should be avoided in pregnancy and may affect thyroid tests. Iron overdose is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6, so keep iron products locked away. Female Enhancement contains ginkgo, which can interact with blood thinners. The vitamin K2 in Bone Support Strips can interact with warfarin.
