Natural remedies & lifestyle tips
- Get thyroid levels checked with your doctor before trying to self-treat symptoms
- Support consistent sleep and stress management (both affect thyroid function)
- Eat a nutrient-adequate diet — deficiencies in iodine or selenium can affect thyroid health
- Review any new supplement with your doctor if you're on thyroid medication — several common supplements can interact with it
Make it at home
Brazil Nut & Berry Yogurt Cup
- 3/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1 to 2 Brazil nuts, chopped
- 1/2 cup berries
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Spoon the yogurt into a cup.
- Top with berries and chopped Brazil nuts.
- Drizzle with honey.
Brazil nuts are a natural food source of selenium, and one or two a day is plenty. Too much selenium is not safe. Contains tree nuts and dairy.
Lightly Cooked Veggie Stir-Fry with Pumpkin Seeds
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (broccoli, bell pepper, zucchini)
- 1 tablespoon olive or avocado oil
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce or tamari
- 2 tablespoons pumpkin seeds
- Stir-fry the vegetables in hot oil for 5 minutes.
- Add the garlic and soy sauce and cook 1 more minute.
- Top with pumpkin seeds (a source of zinc) and serve over rice.
Pumpkin seeds are a source of zinc. If you have a thyroid condition, follow your doctor's guidance on diet and ask before adding kelp or iodine.

In-depth guides
Talk with your doctor. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding any supplement, especially if you are pregnant or nursing, take prescription medicine, or have a medical condition. Symptoms that are new, severe or not improving deserve a visit to a health professional.
